Bring The Neon Museum to Your Classroom with Museum on Wheels

Bring The Neon Museum to Your Classroom with Museum on Wheels

The Neon Museum
May 1, 2024

The Neon Museum in Las Vegas is more than just a collection of historic signs; it’s a vibrant celebration of the city’s colorful history and a learning hub for art, technology, history, and design.

For teachers looking to bring something extraordinary into their classrooms, the museum’s outreach program, “Museum on Wheels,” is a unique way to celebrate the art and history of Las Vegas. Museum on Wheels packs up the stories of Las Vegas and delivers them straight to classrooms. It’s like a traveling treasure trove that ignites creativity and makes learning an adventure.

What is ‘Museum on Wheels’?

Museum on Wheels at The Neon Museum is a program that allows educators to bring the magic of the museum to their classroom. Not all middle schools in Las Vegas have equal accessibility to field trips so Museum on Wheels makes it possible for all CCSD middle school students to learn about the museum.

This outreach effort is all about bridging the gap created by logistical or financial hurdles, making sure that students from all backgrounds get a chance to dive into the fascinating world of Las Vegas History. It’s like bringing a slice of the museum right into the classroom, complete with all the bells and whistles teachers need to turn a regular class lesson into an exciting and interactive learning experience. The Museum on Wheels comes with activity materials and full lesson plans that can be scaled up or down depending on the needs of the students and the teacher.

How Educators Can Bring the Magic of Museum on Wheels Into Their Classroom

They’ll enjoy hands-on activities, lively discussions, and plenty of opportunities to ask questions and explore. Museum on Wheels is all about making learning interactive and fun, tapping into the vibrant world of Las Vegas stories.

What’s Included in the Museum on Wheels?

This program is designed to be as informative as it is engaging. Here’s what it includes:

  • Curriculum-Based Learning Kits: These kits are tailor-made around educational themes that relate to the museum’s collection. They include a mix of physical and digital resources covering topics like Black history in Las Vegas, architecture and design, and museum job skills like those of a curator. These kits align with Nevada Academic Content Standards, making them a great resource for teachers.
  • Interactive Activities: The program features supplies and examples of activities like creating your own exhibit, a collaborative timeline of Black history in Las Vegas, and writing a museum label. It’s a perfect blend of academics and creativity, giving students a hands-on look at history and art.
  • Customizable Lessons: Every classroom is different, and this program understands that. Lesson plans can be customized to focus more on artistic design, historical impacts, or the science behind the signs, depending on what fits best with the educational goals of the teachers.
  • Professional Development and Support: Teachers aren’t left to figure things out alone. The Neon Museum offers comprehensive support to help teachers integrate these resources into their existing lesson plans, ensuring that the resource is as beneficial as possible.

We currently have three options for Museum on Wheels: Think Like a Curator, Black History: Las Vegas & Beyond, and Architecture & Design.
