In Collaboration with LVCVA and the Las Vegas Super Bowl Host Committee, Museum Celebrates Pivotal Moment in City’s Sports History
The Neon Museum – the Las Vegas non-profit known for illuminating the cultural essence of the city by sharing iconic signage, diverse collections and stories that define its vibrant past, present and future – has added the LVIII sign to its Neon Boneyard collection. Originally displayed on Fremont and Fourth Street during the week of Super Bowl LVIII, the five-foot-tall, nine-foot-wide sign now resides in the Museum’s permanent collection, which was made possible thanks to a collaboration between the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) and the Las Vegas Super Bowl Host Committee.
“The Las Vegas Super Bowl Host Committee could not ask for a better custodian and caretaker of these amazing Super Bowl artifacts than The Neon Museum,” said Sam Joffray, senior vice president of the Las Vegas Super Bowl Host Committee. “We hope this is the first of many pieces to be added to the collection, as they are an excellent physical and brilliant representation of the many legacies that Super Bowl LVIII left on the community.”
Created by bluemedia and designed by the Las Vegas Super Bowl Host Committee, the piece blends the city’s vibrant spirit with sports excitement by incorporating elements of Betty Willis’ iconic “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign. Its prominent placement outside Neonopolis on Fremont Street Experience brought extra energy to the many citywide celebrations.
Steve Hill, president and CEO of LVCVA, said, “Hosting Super Bowl LVIII marked an incredible milestone for Las Vegas, and we are grateful to The Neon Museum for their diligent work in preserving Vegas’ history. We are thrilled that these letters – which represent Las Vegas’ evolution as a sports destination and serve as a reminder of one of our city’s pinnacle moments – will be on display for the hundreds of thousands of people who visit the Neon Boneyard every year.”
Aaron Berger, executive director of The Neon Museum, said, “The addition of the LVIII sign to The Neon Museum’s collection not only celebrates a monumental event for Las Vegas, but also reflects the city’s unique ability to blend sports, entertainment and iconic design. We are honored to be the stewards of this extraordinary artifact, preserving its legacy for future generations and showcasing the pivotal role Las Vegas plays on the global stage. This sign is more than a piece of history – it’s a symbol of how far our city has come and the bright future ahead.”
The Neon Museum is open daily and includes an outdoor exhibition space known as the Neon Boneyard that is filled with some of Las Vegas’ most iconic neon signs; the North Gallery, home to the immersive audiovisual experience “Brilliant! Jackpot” which uses technology to re-illuminate more than 40 non- operational signs; the Boulevard Gallery outdoor exhibit and event space; and its visitors’ center inside the former La Concha Motel lobby.
