The Flamingo Hotel and Casino opened on December 26, 1946 with Jimmy Durante performing the night of the opening. The property was financed by the notorious mobster Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel who previously tried to break into the Los Angeles acting scene. Despite a rocky start, the Flamingo quickly became a premier destination for high-profile entertainment. Siegel’s vision was to create a luxurious oasis in the desert, and he succeeded by attracting top-tier performers and high-rolling guests.

 

The 1950s and 1960s
